How to use

How to Use the Facebook Ad Cost Calculator

Enter your campaign details and the calculator will instantly estimate your Facebook ad costs, reach, clicks, and results — no email required.

  • Ad Budget & Period — enter your monthly or daily spend. The calculator converts between the two automatically (using 30.4 days/month).
  • Campaign Objective — choose the objective that matches your goal. Awareness and video objectives have the lowest CPMs; lead gen and conversions cost more because Meta optimizes for higher-value actions.
  • Audience Type — broad audiences are cheapest per impression but convert less. Retargeting warm audiences costs more per CPM but delivers far better results.
  • Avg. Value per Result — optional. Enter the revenue value of a lead or sale to unlock your projected revenue and ROAS estimate.

Results update live. Use them to sanity-check your budget before launch or to model "what if" scenarios for different objectives and audiences.

Education

How Facebook Ad Costs Work

Facebook (Meta) uses a real-time auction to decide which ads get shown and at what cost. Every time a user loads their feed, thousands of advertisers compete for the impression. Your effective cost depends on three things:

  • Your bid — you can let Meta bid automatically (lowest cost) or set a cost cap per result. Higher bids win more auctions but raise your average CPM.
  • Ad relevance — Meta rewards ads that generate strong engagement relative to their audience with cheaper delivery. Poor creative costs more.
  • Estimated action rate — how likely Meta thinks your target audience is to take the action you're optimizing for. Higher-intent audiences get more delivery at lower cost.

The formula this calculator uses: Impressions = (Budget ÷ CPM) × 1,000. Clicks = Impressions × CTR. Results = Clicks × Conversion Rate. Costs are estimated in Canadian dollars using 2026 industry-average benchmarks.

Example

Example Calculation

Suppose a Mississauga home-services company runs a CA$1,000/month Facebook campaign with a Lead Generation objective targeting an Interest-Based audience.

  • Adjusted CPM = CA$9.50 × 1.0 (interest multiplier) = CA$9.50
  • Impressions = (CA$1,000 ÷ CA$9.50) × 1,000 ≈ 105,263
  • Estimated Reach = 105,263 ÷ 1.8 ≈ 58,479 unique accounts
  • Adjusted CTR = 0.9% × 1.0 = 0.9%; Link Clicks = 105,263 × 0.009 ≈ 948 clicks
  • CPC = CA$1,000 ÷ 948 ≈ CA$1.05 per click
  • Leads = 948 × 10% conversion rate ≈ 95 leads
  • Cost per Lead = CA$1,000 ÷ 95 ≈ CA$10.53

If each lead converts to a CA$500 job at a 30% close rate, the projected revenue is CA$14,250 — a 14.3x ROAS on the ad spend.

2026 Benchmarks

Average Facebook Ad Costs (Benchmarks)

These CAD benchmarks are based on aggregated 2025–2026 Meta advertiser data for Canadian campaigns. Use them as planning ranges — your actual costs depend on creative quality, offer, industry, and competition.

Retargeting audiences add a CPM premium of roughly 35% but typically deliver 3–5x better conversion rates. Costs spike in Q4 (October–December) when advertiser competition peaks.

Optimization

How to Lower Your Facebook Ad Costs

  • Improve creative quality. Native-looking video, strong opening hooks, and clear calls to action raise your ad's relevance score — Meta rewards relevant ads with cheaper delivery. A 20–40% CPM reduction is common after creative improvements.
  • Use Advantage+ audiences or broaden targeting. Overly narrow audiences exhaust quickly and drive up CPM. Letting Meta's AI optimize delivery across a wider pool finds cheap, high-converting users you wouldn't have targeted manually.
  • Build and retarget warm audiences. Website visitors, video viewers, and email lists convert 3–5x better than cold traffic. Retarget them aggressively — the higher CPM is more than offset by the conversion lift.
  • Improve your landing page. A faster, clearer landing page with a strong offer raises your conversion rate without touching ad spend. Doubling your CVR halves your cost per lead.
  • Ensure adequate daily budget. Campaigns spending less than CA$15–$20/day often get stuck in Meta's learning phase, which inflates costs. Once you exit learning, delivery stabilizes and CPMs typically drop.
  • Test placements and times. Feed placements cost more than Reels or Stories. Running ads during off-peak hours (early morning, weekdays) reduces auction competition. Let Meta optimize placements automatically with Advantage+ placements.
